This originally appeared at dcmodding and a link was posted, but DcModding has closed.

I have posted it here because the pictures were missing. But no worries, in the forum I re-posted them. But since I did the work of re-hosting the images, I might as well save the readers here the time of scrolling through the forum to find its re-posted image content. Yet, it is where the post originated from... With that, here is a copy:

Author=Jabhacksoul How to Make Simple Costumes in MED 1.0 (DcModding)

Quite a few people have asked and asked about costumes in The Movies. Here is the very easiest way to make custom costumes with the MED 1.0 and not the older program by Dead Sane. Scroll down and follow along with the video images.

1. OPEN A COSTUME

Above I chose to modify an existing costume. I selected (A)costume and (B)Underwear, (C)Designer Underwear and (D)clicked Finish.

2. DELETE AND ADD MESH

pic3

Now (A)I use the mouse to swing the model forward. I click the (B)appearance tab. I select the (C)hat and (D)delete it.

pic4

I choose (A)Add Mesh and in the next window expand the mesh files by (B)clicking on the plus sign. I (C)scroll down and I find acc_f_soundbag_tz3.msh (accessory female soundbag timezone 3) which is otherwise unavailable for us. I (D)click Finish.

3. ADD TEXTURES

pic5

Now here you can see the soundbag is being called a Jacket by default.

pic6

(A)I selected Trim but I could have called it a Hat. (B)Now I clicked Add Skin and (C)I choose to expand costumes. Not all textures will fit on your model and you will need to experiment. I (D)scroll down this list and find a 1940 male jacket. I (E)click Finish.

4. ADDING MORE TEXTURES

pic7

Here I add trousers and some boots just like I did the jacket.

5. ORDER OF LAYERS

Now because I added the pants first the boots will cover the legs. So I select the boots and Move Up button. Then I return to Core Details tab.

6. SAVING TO WORKSPACE

One last thing, I change the Unique Identifier to m_openshirt_hp and save it with Actions -> Save to Workspace.

If you followed along you can go to your workspace directory and see data folder with the usual files inside including many that you don't need. Yes MED 1.0 is very good about tossing the mesh and textures in there but since I never changed them, all I really need is in that one little folder costumes inside you will find a few small ini files and another folder called datas with the m_openshirt_hp.cos file. Move the costume folder into your Movies data folder and you should be all set. You can safely delete the others in the working directory.
